Free Halloween Printable Book and Writing Activity

 This post contains affiliate links.

The Activities:

Print a copy of this free Halloween book (focusing on double consonant words) for your classroom library or Halloween center!  Then, have your students write about what their teacher should wear for a costume!

Getting Ready:

To print the free book (and have the pages in the right order), print on both sides and then fold and staple!  You can print it in color or black and white.  I use an Epson eco tank at home and I love that I can print everything in color for my classroom for an affordable price! I've used my eco tank for a few months and the ink is still super full-- it's saved me countless trips to the store to buy ink and LOTS of money!

Make it Fun:

For the writing prompt, simply print that one sided and let your students draw a picture of you dressed up in a Halloween costume before writing about it!  One thing I've seen that makes this activity so much fun is printing out your school staff photo so that your students can glue your face on the drawing area and truly make it look like YOU wearing the costume!

I also have this pack that is perfect for K-2nd grade!  It has six reading and writing activities to make October lots of fun.  Find it HERE on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Writing Tips:

You can put this free writing page in your writing center or do it as a whole class all together, but I always think giving students the opportunity to share what they have written is essential!  I know writing time can be time consuming, but protecting the last few minutes for students to do "share chair" or "author's chair" is HUGE!  My students always love putting things under a document camera or sitting in a teacher chair to show off their hard work to their classmates.

Apple Compound Words Free Matching Game

Yesterday was the first full day of fall and it was lovely where I live!  Even though the school year seems to be taking a while to get off the ground and for routines to actually be routine, I'm definitely ready to start doing some fun fall activities with apples and pumpkins!

I love crafts, themed snacks, painting, etc. but now that I'm a reading teacher, I only have 30 minutes with each of my groups and we actually have to do literacy work most of the time... HAA!

This free activity helps students practice compound words, write sentences, and think about the meaning of words.  Simply print the freebie (I did on card stock), cut or have students cut the apple squares, and then students will match the compound words!

After that, there is a recording sheet to write the compound words and a sheet for a few sentences.

I'd recommend this activity for 1st-3rd graders depending on their abilities, but there are a lot of compound words to work on!  You can also modify this activity by using less pairs of the compound words.

Students can match these pairs individually or in small groups.  I always just let my students choose!  After matching and writing down all the compound words, there is a page for students to use the words in a sentence.  If you are short on time, you can extend that portion of the activity until the next day, or whenever you focus on writing.

Ready to download the freebie and check it out?  Simply click the blue button below!  If you have any issues, please reach out via email or social media!  I'm on most platforms as The Simplified Classroom and my email is TheSimplifiedClassroom at Gmail!

Happy Teaching!
