The Activities:

Print a copy of this free Halloween book (focusing on double consonant words) for your classroom library or Halloween center!  Then, have your students write about what their teacher should wear for a costume!

Getting Ready:

To print the free book (and have the pages in the right order), print on both sides and then fold and staple!  You can print it in color or black and white.  I use an Epson eco tank at home and I love that I can print everything in color for my classroom for an affordable price! I’ve used my eco tank for a few months and the ink is still super full– it’s saved me countless trips to the store to buy ink and LOTS of money!

Make it Fun:

For the writing prompt, simply print that one sided and let your students draw a picture of you dressed up in a Halloween costume before writing about it!  One thing I’ve seen that makes this activity so much fun is printing out your school staff photo so that your students can glue your face on the drawing area and truly make it look like YOU wearing the costume!

I also have this pack that is perfect for K-2nd grade!  It has six reading and writing activities to make October lots of fun.  Find it HERE on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Writing Tips:

You can put this free writing page in your writing center or do it as a whole class all together, but I always think giving students the opportunity to share what they have written is essential!  I know writing time can be time consuming, but protecting the last few minutes for students to do “share chair” or “author’s chair” is HUGE!  My students always love putting things under a document camera or sitting in a teacher chair to show off their hard work to their classmates.
